[MUSIC PLAYING] LINDA WOMACK: Hi, I'm Linda Womack and I'm the executive director of imaging and I'm here to talk about today some exciting technology that has come about for imaging the breast. It's called 3D, or tomosynthesis, mammography. This technology just got FDA approved in the last three years and John Muir Health is lucky enough to be one of the first in the East Bay to offer this technology to your patients. A regular mammogram really only gets you a visual of the breast tissue from two angles, whereas a 3D is looking at the breast from every angle and really separating the tissue apart so you can look a little bit more closely at things that could be hiding, especially in women with dense breasts. What we have found with this technology is that we've actually decreased our callback rate about 25%. This lessens the anxiety for the patient. However, on the flip side, we're very specific now, so that if we do call a patient back, it's because we've seen something that is concerning to us. We currently right now offer this technology at our breast center in Walnut Creek and soon we will be offering it at our Brentwood facility in November of this year 2015. [MUSIC PLAYING] Created by
